About anaconda

Function

anaconda is my main server. It's primary function is to run the websites, DNS, and email for my domains. Secondarily it acts as the data storage server for the home LAN.

History

I got an Adaptec 2400a RAID controller in December 2005 and had to move the server back into its old case to fit the full-size board. So I took the opportunity to 'downgrade' the system to a dual-P3 board, allowing me to turn the Athlon board into a gaming PC. The Adaptec controller turned out to be a huge waste of time and money (doesn't support 200GB drives and lots of hassles under Debian). At long last I got a 3ware 7506-8 RAID controller in July 2006 and anaconda finally has its RAID!
The current hardware is slightly unstable in hot conditions and I'm having to rethink where to put the server or how better to cool it. I think it's the drives in their enclosures (the enclosure fans are cheap and keep breaking)

anaconda's hardware became unstable (typically while I was overseas) and got replaced with a new set of components on 2005.01.19. I also took the opportunity to add more drive capacity and a DVD rewriter to anaconda.

anaconda just got a facelift on 2004.02.18/19! The old config is here. This also meant that the uptime record of 381 days has now been reset. Here's hoping the new hardware is as stable...
